SIZE AUS - an anthropometric sizing survey of the Australian population
The Australian TCF Technology Network, under the direction of the peak industry body TFIA and supported by FTAA, proposes to conduct a national sizing survey to develop a comprehensive up‑to‑date anthropometric profile of the Australian population.
It is envisaged that the national sizing survey will cover:
· children (girls and boys)
· youth (girls and boys)
· adults (women and men).
This body measurement research will focus on the consumer and result in a dynamic anthropometric database that can primarily be used by the TCF apparel sector for garment construction and size definitions. It will also provide valuable data for CS-092 Committee (Sizing Systems for Clothing) to review the current clothing standards.
- AS 1344 - 1997 Size coding scheme for women's clothing - Underwear, outerwear and foundation garments
- AS 1182 - 1997 Size clothing scheme for infants and childrens clothing - Underwear and outerwear
The size code scheme for men was withdrawn in 1998.
There will also be secondary uses for the database in industries such as:
· defence – accurate sizing of life-support equipment and clothing
· ergonomics – improvement in furniture design
· health – body image and fitness profiles
· interface design
· occupational health and safety (OH&S) – personal protective equipment
· sport and science – improved understanding of the human body in Australia and improvements in performance of sportswear and equipment
· transport – improvements in seat design, safety features, space allocation.
